The birds teach Stellaluna to fly during the day, to eat insects instead of fruit and to sleep in a nest rather than upside down. One day, Stellaluna finds her mother and the other bats again. She tries to teach the birds how to fly at night and hang from their toes. Eventually bat and birds realise that they can be different and still be friends. A lovely book with a moving story which teaches children about how bats (and birds) behave. And not only children, I also learnt some things about bats. For ages three to six. About the Author While working at a library Janell Cannon developed a reading program about bats and other often misunderstood animals. She found a paucity of information on bats and so decided to write her own story. After the success of Stellaluna, Janell left the library to devote more time to writing and illustrating books.
