Henry Prince School Summer Fete

Henry Prince School Summer Fete is open from 6.30-8 pm on Friday 3rd July for plant, cake and craft stalls, maypole dancing, barbeque, face painting, refreshments, competitions and tombola. At Henry Prince School, Ashbourne Rd, Mayfield.

The barbeque starts at 6.30 pm with burgers and sausages from local Ashbourne butcher Nigel. Bring the family for tea or sample the other refreshments of cakes and biscuits, tea and coffee.

Plants are for sale at between 50p and £2. There is something for everyone. Edible plants like tomatoes, chilli peppers and herbs; bedding plants such as geraniums and fuchsias; perennial flowering plants like Alstroemeria (orange lily-like flowers), Astrantia (unusual starburst flowers), Marguerite (big daisy-like flowers), Lady's Mantle, Marsh Woundwort, Penstemon, Cocosmia Lucifer, Kerria Japonica, Creeping Jenny, Sedum Spectabile and Winter Flowering Jasmine. Plus cut flowers just 60p a bunch or two bunches for one pound.

All cakes for sale are home-made: delicious chocolate cake, scones, lemon cake and so on.

Children from the school are performing traditional Maypole and country dancing.

The competitions include "welly wanging", with a bottle of whisky for the person throwing the welly the furthest.

All proceeds go towards buying equipment for the school.
